Capacity Building of Academic Staff on Grant Proposal Workshop and Research Ethics

Research is a core mandate of Maseno University. The Directorate of research and Innovation under division of Partnerships, Research and innovation organized a capacity building on grand proposal writing and research ethics workshop. The training was eyed to promote quality proposals with high standards in research ethics written and submitted during calls.
Academic staff representatives from all the fourteen schools in the university attended the workshop that was facilitated by Prof. Collins Ouma, the Director Research and Innovations.
 

The following are the units under the Directorate that supports activities as part of Maseno University’s mission to discover, harness, apply, disseminate and preserve knowledge for the good of humanity through teaching and research:

a)    Research

This unit provide framework for the undertaking of research by academic members of staff and their collaborators.  This is currently attained through creation of enabling environment within the University, as well as encouraging academic members of staff to devote more time and effort to research. Through provision of training on proposal writing, availing seed money for pilot studies and testing new approaches, seeking sources of 
Potential funding, and providing research assistance, the University is working hand-in-hand with staff members (and their collaborators) to facilitate the discovery, transmission and preservation and improvement of knowledge to enhance the economic, technological, agricultural, professional and cultural development in Kenya, in addition to providing a platform to network with their peers from all over the world. 
In order to achieve its research mission in a prioritized manner, Maseno University is currently strengthening its research capacity, both internally and through local, regional and international collaborations.

b) Publication

This unit provides a framework for the publication and dissemination of research outputs by academic members of staff and students of Maseno University, and their Collaborators. The increased research output usually benefits humankind if it is disseminated to the scientific world, general public and end-users of the information through organized channels of communication. The University has therefore created an enabling environment that encourages academic members of staff, students and their collaborators to devote more time and effort to research, and to publish and disseminate the research outputs for the benefits of mankind. This is further enhanced through provision of training on writing proposals, manuscripts, books and book chapters.  The University will work hand-in-hand with academic staff members and students to facilitate the publication, dissemination and enhancement of knowledge to improve the economic, technological, agricultural, professional and cultural Development in Kenya, as well as create a network with peers globally.
 

b)    Consultancy

This unit strives to provide framework for the undertaking of consultancies by academic members of staff of Maseno University. At present the unique knowledge pool existing and being developed in the University is largely unused. Through this unit, the University is striving to change the scenario to enable staff to be more fully engaged in the solutions of societal problems through conducting consultancies in their area of expertise.   The University achieves this through creation of enabling environment within the University, as well as encouraging academic members of staff to devote more time and effort to consultancies. Through such support, the University would achieve part of its objectives which is to advance professional expertise of its staff.
