Department of Chemistry at Maseno University Celebrating the IUPAC 2025 Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB) With the Theme “Accelerating Equity in Science”,
The Department of Chemistry at Maseno University is celebrating the IUPAC 2025 Global Women’s Breakfast (GWB) with the theme “Accelerating Equity in Science”, focusing on empowering underprivileged and special needs Kenyan students in chemical science through AI-driven Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. Sponsored by the Royal Society of Chemistry, the workshop explored how AI’s evolution offers immense potential at the intersection of technology and education, despite challenges to human interaction. The workshop aimed to bridge the DEI gap in chemical sciences and STEM for underprivileged individuals and those with special needs.
Participants included invited guests Prof. Solomon Derese (University of Nairobi) and Dr. Edna Too (Chuka University), Maseno University academic staff, teachers from special needs schools in western Kenya (e.g., St. Angela Secondary School for the Deaf, Nico Hauser Secondary School for the Visually Impaired), Maseno University students with special needs, and technical staff from the Department of Special Needs Education.
