Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor
Administration, Finance & Development
The Division of Administration, Finance and Development has continued to play its pivot role of facilitating the activities of the Academic and Student Affairs and Partnerships, Research and International Linkages Divisions by resourcing them promptly and adequately through quality administrative systems and actions, provision of quality and relevant human resources, provision of desired finances as well as maintaining a conducive physical and work environments to deliver on their mandates.
In the last 3 years, the University has realized substantial gains in Physical facility developments including a new Administrative Block, a new Medical Laboratory Complex, a new Library Complex and upcoming Tuition and Laboratories Complex. Construction of a new Student Hostel Complex is set to begin as early as April 2019.
We have put in place a number of policies to govern our operations including the Maseno University Human Resources policy and Procedures manual which has enabled us to inject a lot more objectivity and rationality in recruitment, remunerating, promoting and developing our staff. Our engagement with staff unions remain cordial as all of us continue working to realize the same common vision of a ‘University of Excellence in Discovery and Dissemination of Knowledge’.
The division continues to improve Maseno University’s capacity to move both staff and students to various destinations in their daily pursuit of the University’s mission. Thus in the last couple of years we have embarked on the journey to modernize and increase our vehicular capacity. So far, six (6) new vehicles including two (2) 64-seater buses have been added. This trend will continue into the foreseeable future to achieve optimum operating levels.
I am happy to note that Maseno University is one of the few Universities that have remained unshaken in the face of the recent unfavourable policy developments in the sector. The health of our staff and students has remained in our focus and provision of quality Health Services has been sustained through the recently elevated University Health Centre as well as the non-contributory medical scheme for staff. We continue to explore more sustainable ways to finance the ever increasing Health Budgets through other players such as the NHIF’s enhanced cover among others.
We have ensured the operationalization of an integrated ERP system that has transformed financial and Human Resources management in the University. It is gradually revolutionizing the management process of managing Students’ Finance through robust integration with academic processes. We foresee the entire University processes being integrated into this system in the next couple of years.
The University will continue to expend resources on maintenance of our machinery, physical facilities as well as equipment to ensure realization of optimum value for money as well as experiences in the Maseno University Environments. To this end, we are moving towards adoption of total involvement in preventive maintenance by all staff and students to deliver a clean and serene environment as well as fully functional equipment and plants.
